Week 38

Hey, your little one isn’t so little anymore, weighing close to seven pounds and measuring 20 inches long. Fetal development is nearly complete as your baby tends to a few last-minute details like shedding the skin-protecting vernix and lanugo. He’s also producing more surfactant, a substance that prevents the air sacs in his lungs from sticking to one another once he starts to breathe.

Parker is due two weeks from today! It’s hard to even fathom that, and obviously it could be longer than that, but that our son is a mere 14 days from projected arrival is exciting.

This weekend was our ‘last hoorah’ before we begin the joys of parenting. On Saturday evening, we checked into the Sheraton Suites in Worthington before heading to Olive Garden armed with our $50 gift card where we enjoyed an Italian feast.

On the way back to the hotel, we stopped at the store and picked up some Starbucks ice cream (I had a coupon good for one free pint), chips and salsa, and rootbeer (for her) and Sam Adams Irish Red (for me). After picking up our dog, we all went to the hotel to spend our evening watching movies in the king-size bed and eating/drinking to our hearts’ content.

On Sunday, we got up, went to church, followed by Harry Potter, the mall, and finishing off our restaurant gift card at Longhorn Steakhouse. Total cost of our weekend was just about $20.

All in all, it was very relaxing and enjoyable to do one last ‘vacation’ as our current family before our new addition. Because in two weeks, it’s all going to change!
